Aaron Warburton is the reigning FIMP Indoor World Champion. He won the 2026 Indoor World Championship in Rotterdam, becoming the first British Indoor champion since Callum Reidford in 1976. Known as “The Echo” for the unusually low pitch and short duration of his Marco calls, Warburton tagged all five evaders in his final chukka from just 9 calls (1.80 calls per tag, a championship record) and posted the lowest Bearing Error (6.1°) ever recorded in an Indoor final.
Club: Lido Athletic Marco Polo Club
Calling style: Low-frequency, short-duration calls (mean 112 Hz fundamental)
The story
From Great Britain · Era Indoor · Style The Echo
The long climb
Aaron Warburton's World Championship story is one of steady progress. He went out in Round 1 on his debut in 2019, reached the quarter-finals in 2021, made his first final in 2022 (5th) and a semi-final in 2023, and won his first medal, bronze, in 2024.
The near miss
In 2025 he finished fourth as Mathis Delacroix-Brun took the title.
Rotterdam
In March 2026 Warburton beat Delacroix-Brun in the final to become Indoor World Champion. As the Marco in his chukka of the final, he tagged all five evaders from 9 calls, a championship record of 1.80 calls per tag, with a Bearing Error of just 6.1°.
The Echo
Warburton's calls are low and short, with a fundamental around 112 Hz. In a reverberant hall, a short call ends before its first strong echoes arrive, so the direct sound reaches evaders cleanly. It is the indoor technique Bertrand Pélissou pioneered in 1968, taken to its extreme.
