Britain's first Indoor World Champion (1973, 1974, 1976). His record stood alone until Aaron Warburton's 2026 title.

The story

Britain's first champion

Callum Reidford won the Indoor title in 1973, 1974 and 1976, the first world titles for Great Britain. For fifty years he was the only British world champion.

The Whisper

Reidford's calls sat just above the 65 dB legal minimum. In a reverberant hall, a quiet call produces quieter echoes, and he believed evaders could not tell where a quiet call came from. Officials checked his calls with handheld meters at every championship and never found one below the limit.

Legacy

Reidford reached 10 Indoor finals. When Aaron Warburton won the 2026 title, Reidford's name was the one every British report reached for.

“Sixty-six decibels. One more than the rule. One more than I needed.”Callum Reidford
