Champion of the open air
Marisol Etxeberria grew up surfing the Zurriola beach and was second to Pélissou in 1967. When the sport split, she chose the open air and won the first Outdoor World Championship at Acapulco in 1968.
Legacy
Etxeberria's ability to separate Polo responses from wind and wave noise made her the model Outdoor athlete. She reached 9 World Championship finals in all.
“The sea is loud. You learn to hear the person inside the noise.”Marisol Etxeberria
