The double, 35 years on
Lars-Erik Hovland is still the only athlete to win both world titles.
In August 1989, Lars-Erik Hovland of Norway won the Outdoor World Championship, two years after winning the Indoor title. Thirty-five years later he remains the only athlete to have won both.
Hovland entered both championships every year from 1984 to 1992 and reached the final every time: 18 finals, the most in FIMP history, and a record 14 silver medals. His full story is on his athlete page.
