Hawk-Ear 3.0 proposed for Sapporo
More microphones, faster tracking, and a Code amendment for Congress to consider.
The Acoustic Standards Commission has recommended an upgraded Hawk-Ear system for the 2027 Indoor World Championship. Hawk-Ear 3.0 would add sixteen hydrophones and thirty-two poolside microphones to the current installation and double the tracking rate from 25 to 50 positions per second.
Because Article 11.3 of the Code of Competition specifies the current system (32 hydrophones and 64 microphones), the change needs an amendment approved by the 97th Congress in February 2027. If it is not approved, the current system will be used in Sapporo.
Hawk-Ear has tracked every championship athlete since its debut at the 2011 Outdoor World Championship in Gothenburg.
